Volunteering Experiences

I have taken part in a range of volunteering roles over the years, each of which has shaped my outlook in different ways. I spent several months volunteering in India, working directly with communities and seeing firsthand how even small contributions can make a real difference. That experience deepened my commitment to sustainability and the wider Sustainable Development Goals, and I’ve been fortunate to stay involved since. One example was organising a cycling tour for staff and students, which promoted both wellbeing and environmental awareness.

Right now, I volunteer with Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind as a puppy raiser. I was inspired to join after meeting a colleague at the University who is blind and hearing how profoundly a guide dog changed his life. He also explained how urgently the organisation needs homes to raise future guide dogs, which encouraged me to take the step and enrol in the programme.

Volunteering has given me purpose, perspective, and a way to contribute to causes that matter — and I try to stay involved wherever I can.

My role involves assisting in training guide dogs, fostering a strong bond between these remarkable animals and their future owners.

Through this experience, I have gained a deeper understanding of the importance that these dogs make for their clients.

The guide dogs provide companionship and independence for those in need. I am very grateful  to be a part of this lifechanging journey and the opportunity to meet this amazing dogs.

It has enriched my life while allowing me to make a meaningful impact.

Campus Tours

I have organized a cycling tour for staff and students to explore and learn about the UCD Belfield campus, specifically focusing on the faculties designed to reduce the university's carbon emissions. During the tour, we visited the energy center and learned about the 10 MW heat pump. We also explored student residences that were built as passive housing.

Since the campus is quite large, I secured sponsorship from a local bike shop to provide free rental bikes for those who needed them, ensuring that everyone could participate. Following this, the university received a gold certificate for being a cycling-friendly campus. To celebrate this achievement, I have organized another cycling tour, as captured in the accompanying image.

Community Development Project Dharuhera, India.

I spent six months volunteering with an NGO in India, where my primary role focused on community engagement. Additionally, I contributed to local schools by organizing afternoon activities for children in the community. I am very proud of my work teaching the kids about recycling. I also built a recycling station at the school to ensure that students can continue learning about it even after I leave the project.
